To celebrate Thyroid Awareness, the GMU‑IVPN Student Club organized a Thyroid Awareness Poster Competition on Thursday, February 5, 2026, bringing together students from the College of Pharmacy and the College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University. The interprofessional initiative aimed to raise awareness about thyroid disorders, often described as ‘silent’ endocrine conditions due to their subtle clinical presentation, while emphasizing early recognition, patient education, and long-term management.
The event served as a platform to translate clinical knowledge from the classroom into community-oriented education, featuring a wide range of visually engaging posters. These presentations addressed key thyroid conditions, including Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, thyroid nodules, iodine deficiency, and functional thyroid disorders, emphasizing their epidemiology, risk factors, and clinical implications.
The competition centered on several core educational pillars, including visual diagnostics, simplified pathophysiology, and patient-centered care. Participants employed clear, evidence-informed infographics to help viewers identify common yet frequently overlooked signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, while also translating complex concepts into accessible language suitable for both clinical and non-clinical audiences.
By hosting the competition in the library foyer, the initiative ensured sustained engagement and visibility throughout the day. The event highlighted the value of interprofessional collaboration in health education, demonstrating how integrated perspectives from different healthcare disciplines can deliver clearer, more impactful public health messages to the wider community.
