Faculty Development Session on Implementing Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in Pharmacy Education: From Concept to Practice

On February 5, 2026, the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University, organized a Faculty Development Session titled “Implementing Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) in Pharmacy Education: From Concept to Practice.” The session aimed to enhance faculty understanding of EPA-based education and its practical implementation within pharmacy curricula.

The session was led by Prof.  Mohamed Abdullatif, Assistant Dean – Assessment and Evaluations, and Prof. Dixon Thomas, Associate Dean – Clinical, College of Pharmacy. Prof. Abdullatif provided a comprehensive overview of Entrustable Professional Activities, highlighting their concept, international benchmarking, assessment levels, and their significance in competency-based pharmacy education. He also discussed the documentation and tracking of EPAs through the e-Portfolio system, which is already implemented at the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University, to support structured assessment and learner development.

Following this, Prof. Dixon Thomas elaborated on the integration of EPAs within clinical rotations across both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The session included detailed discussions on practical experiences, EPA-related activities, assessment strategies, and challenges encountered during implementation.

The session was highly interactive and well-appreciated by the faculty members. Participants emphasized the importance of continued faculty engagement in this area and expressed interest in conducting further sessions focusing on advancements and the effective implementation of EPAs within the curriculum.
