Dr. Juny Sebastian, Chair and Assistant Professor of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Gulf Medical University, was invited as an expert speaker by the Faculty of Health Sciences, Villa College, Maldives. The session took place on October 8, 2025, as part of their Health Expertise Webinar, focusing on vaccine safety.
Dr. Juny led a session titled “Vaccine Safety: From Principles to Practice and Building Trust”, where he addressed the principles of immunization and how vaccines protect against disease, distinguished between vaccine efficacy and effectiveness, discussed the impact of vaccines on population-level disease patterns, identified different types of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) with real-life examples, and outlined procedures for AEFI reporting and surveillance to ensure vaccine safety. The session was attended by students and faculty from Pharmacy, Nursing, Phlebotomy, and Health Services. The interactive session was very well received, with participants actively engaging with the practical insights shared.
