Gulf Medical University College of Pharmacy Demonstrates Academic and Research Excellence, and Innovative Talents at the Second Community Pharmacy Conference 2026

Second Community Pharmacy Conference

Pharmacy Students and Faculty members from the College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University actively participated in the Second Community Pharmacy conference, held in Dubai on September 12, 2026. The conference events highlighted the evolving and crucial role of community pharmacists in disease prevention, health promotion, and complication management.

As part of the scientific program, Professor Muhammad Al-Shorbagy, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, moderated a high-profile session titled “Hot Topics in Community Pharmacy”. The session addressed critical themes, including patient care optimization strategies, key insights into specialty pharmacy, and cost-optimization approaches in relation to products selection. Prof. Al-Shorbagy concluded the session with an insightful address outlining best practices for modern pharmaceutical care.

GMU pharmacy students and faculty strongly contributed to the conference scientific activities and showed outstanding research achievements and academic excellence, taking top honors across multiple conference’s competitive tracks. Our clinical preceptor, Dr. Ruth Alex, successfully secured the first place in the professional category of the scientific poster competition for her project titled “Assessment of Stroke Knowledge and Practice Among Lebanese Community Pharmacists: Cross-Sectional Study”. Additionally, PharmD students Salama Alhammadi, Jude Maala, and Alya Arasteh achieved the first place in the undergraduate category of the scientific poster competition for their project titled “Attitudes and Beliefs about Cardiovascular Disease, Personality Functioning, and Nutrition Literacy: A Cross-Sectional Study in an Arab Population”. Both award-winning posters were supervised by Dr. Diana Malaeb, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at College of Pharmacy GMU. In the “Talent Show Competition”, our Year 4 Pharmacy Student, Krisha Shah, was recognized as the third place for designing and presenting an innovative digital application tailored for enhanced patient counseling and monitoring.

These achievements underscore the College of Pharmacy’s strong commitment to fostering research, innovation, and scholarly excellence, and reflect Gulf Medical University’s ongoing dedication to preparing future leaders in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.
