College of Pharmacy at GMU Celebrates World Pharmacy Technician Day 2025

On November 5, 2025, the College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University celebrated the “World Pharmacy Technician Day 2025” aligning with the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s (FIP) theme for 2025, “Empowering Pharmacy Support: Advancing Practice, Partnership, and Patient Care”.

The event started with opening remarks from Professor Muhammad Al-Shorbagy, Dean of the College of Pharmacy. In his speech, he emphasized how the college acknowledges and values pharmacy technicians as a keystone in pharmacy operations and how the College of Pharmacy at GMU adopts the vision of graduating future leaders in this essential field.

Following the Dean’s welcome, a video message from Alison Hemsworth, FdSc, MSc, FAPharmT. Alison Hemsworth is a member of the FIP Pharmacy Technician Advisory Committee, the Founder and Chair of Pharmacy Technicians International, and a former National Head of Primary Care Policy (Pharmaceutical Services) at NHS England. The message summarized her outstanding journey as a pharmacy technician since graduation to date and highlighted the different qualification-based roles and services she offered. These professional and educational insights aimed to spot the light on the evolving roles of pharmacy technicians globally and reflected that their responsibilities are expanding across healthcare systems.

The celebration brought together students from PG PharmD, BPharm, Master in Clinical Pharmacy, and Diploma in Pharmacy Technician programs, reflecting how this blend can work together for the future of the pharmacy profession.

The event concluded with a group photo, capturing students, faculty, and professionals.
