DUPHAT- 2018, Best Poster Award for GMU PharmD Student

During the recent Dubai International Pharmaceuticals & Technologies Conference & Exhibition (DUPHAT), held in Dubai, Ms. Ayisha Abdul Gafoor of final year PharmD won the ‘Best Presentation Pharmacy Student Poster’.

Ayisha’s research was a collaborative effort with the following students: Maram Salloum, Jesty Reji, Hamid Rigi, Sonita Anwari and Basir Ahmad.

The research presentation was titled ‘cost-effectiveness analysis of Clarithromycin alone and with other antibiotic treatments for community-acquired Mycoplasma pneumonia’. The research finding showed that Clarithromycin alone offers better benefits than adding other antibiotics to it. Further, adding other antibiotics not only increased the chances of resistance but also offered no additional benefit.

The research project was supervised by Dr. Dixon Thomas, Chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice at Gulf Medical University’s College of Pharmacy.

Well done Ayisha and all the team!
