Dr. Norkasihan Ibrahim delivers a Career Talk to GMU Masters in Clinical Pharmacy Students

On December 25, 2020, Dr. Norkasihan Ibrahim, a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at MARA University of Technology Malaysia (UiTM), delivered a career talk to Master in Clinical Pharmacy (MCP) students at College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University. The topic of the talk was “How to Excel Skills and Establish Pharmacist-led Service to Patients with Renal Impairment”.

Dr. Norkasihan Ibrahim shared her experience and contribution to the planning and establishment of the first Renal Transplant Medication Therapy Adherence Clinic (MTAC) in Malaysia’s public hospital during her practice as a hospital pharmacist.

During her talk, she has addressed the need for a shift of pharmacy practice from focusing on products to delivering patient-focused pharmacy services. She discussed the process of setting up the first Renal Transplant Medication Therapy Adherence Clinic (MTAC) in Malaysia. She also discussed the challenges faced and the ways these challenges were overcome. She stated that to establish and run effective pharmacist-led services there is a need for trained pharmacists, standard operating procedures, a collaboration with all stakeholders, and a means to measure the outcome of the services.
