GMU Clinical Pharmacy Master Classes on Vaccination, Opioid Stewardship, Statins & Heart Failure

Clinical Pharmacy Master Classes

The GMU Clinical Pharmacy Master Classes held from March to June 2026 brought together clinical pharmacists, faculty, and healthcare professionals for a focused series on vaccination, opioid stewardship, statin therapy, and heart failure management. Delivered through the Gulf Medical University (GMU) Academic Health System, the sessions reflected the College of Pharmacy’s expanding leadership in clinical pharmacy services at Thumbay University Hospital. Each master class combined evidence-based updates with real-world clinical application, ensuring that participants gained both foundational knowledge and advanced practice insights relevant to contemporary healthcare needs.

Across the four events, more than 800 participants joined from the Middle East and Asia, demonstrating the regional demand for high-quality, practice-oriented pharmacy education. The sessions emphasized clinical decision-making, patient safety, and interprofessional collaboration, particularly in areas such as optimizing vaccination strategies, ensuring responsible opioid use, improving lipid management with statins, and strengthening heart failure pharmacotherapy. Faculty and clinical pharmacists facilitated case-based discussions, guideline reviews, and practical demonstrations to ensure that learning translated directly into improved patient care.

These master classes also reinforced GMU’s commitment to global development priorities, aligning with SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-Being) by promoting safer and more effective medication use, SDG 4 (Quality Education) through accessible, high-impact professional learning, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by engaging practitioners across countries and health systems. By advancing pharmacists’ competencies and supporting experiential education, the series strengthened GMU’s role as a regional hub for clinical pharmacy excellence.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 3: Good Health and Well Being; SDG 4: Quality Education; SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
