College of Pharmacy Hosts “Be a Pharmacist for a Day” event to Inspire the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals

Be a Pharmacist for a Day event

On June 13, 2026, Gulf Medical University’s College of Pharmacy welcomed high school students from various schools across the UAE, accompanied by their parents, for an exciting experience “Be a Pharmacist for a Day.”. The event was designed to introduce prospective students to the dynamic and evolving profession of pharmacy through interactive learning and real-world simulation activities.

The day commenced with a welcoming orientation session by Prof. Muhammed Abdullatif, Assistant Dean of Assessment and Evaluation at the College of Pharmacy, who introduced participants to the expanding roles of modern pharmacists across healthcare settings, the diverse career opportunities available in pharmacy and the student-centered learning environment that characterizes Gulf Medical University.

Following the orientation, participants engaged in a series of hands-on activities that allowed them to step into the pharmacist’s shoes and experience different aspects of pharmaceutical practice.

Students explored the process of Aspirin synthesis, gaining exposure to pharmaceutical sciences and drug development principles within the laboratory setting. They also participated in a vaccination techniques activity, where they learned about the pharmacist’s growing role in preventive healthcare and immunization services.

Then students entered a virtual drug dispensing environment, simulating real-life pharmacy workflows and patient interactions and concluded with an interactive dispensing pharmacist experience, enabling participants to understand the responsibilities involved in ensuring safe and effective medication use.

That was followed by a session by Ms. Marife Escala, who provided an overview of the admission process and entry requirements at Gulf Medical University, guiding students and parents through the pathways toward joining the College of Pharmacy.

The event concluded with a guided tour of GMU’s facilities and laboratories, giving attendees the opportunity to experience the university’s educational environment firsthand. The day ended with a group photo, capturing an inspiring experience that encouraged students to envision themselves as future healthcare professionals.

Through initiatives such as “Be a Pharmacist for a Day,” the College of Pharmacy continues its commitment to inspiring the next generation of pharmacists and empowering young minds to explore meaningful careers in healthcare.
