The Nursing Department of Latifa Women and Children’s Hospital, in collaboration with the College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University (GMU), successfully organized a World Prematurity Day Awareness Program on 26th November 2025 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The program witnessed active participation from Master of Science in Critical Care Nursing (MSNCCN) Year 1 students, who contributed enthusiastically to the planning and execution of the event. The program was formally inaugurated by Ms. Khadija Al Sulaimi, Nursing Director of Latifa Women and Children’s Hospital, who emphasized the importance of continued support, follow-up care, and community awareness for premature infants and their families. Her address highlighted the crucial role of nurses in neonatal care and family-centered practice.

The event brought together approximately 20 children who were former NICU graduates, accompanied by their families. Several engaging and meaningful activities were organized to celebrate the resilience of these children and honor their journeys. These included a memory board where families could share fingerprints and personal memories, creative coloring activities for children, and the distribution of “Special First Moments” milestone cards to commemorate significant achievements in the children’s lives. Parents were also encouraged to share their personal stories and experiences, creating a supportive platform for reflection, emotional connection, and mutual encouragement.

The program fostered a warm, inclusive environment that strengthened the bond between healthcare providers and families. It also served as a valuable learning experience for the nursing students, reinforcing the importance of compassionate, holistic, and family-centered neonatal care. Overall, the World Prematurity Day Community Engagement Program was a meaningful and impactful initiative that highlighted the journey of premature infants, celebrated their milestones, and strengthened community awareness and support, aligning well with GMU’s mission of community engagement and excellence in healthcare education.
