The College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University, organized an inspiring career advising session titled “The Power of One Small Act”, led by Dr. Yehia El-Gabbani, Hospital Director and CEO of Saudi German Hospital Ajman and Sharjah.
Through real-life examples and heartfelt reflections from his own leadership journey, Dr. El-Gabbani highlighted how simple actions, thoughtful communication, empathy, accountability, and professionalism can transform a patient’s healthcare experience. He encouraged students to see care through the patient’s eyes and reminded them that patients often remember not only what was done, but how they were made to feel.

The session also explored the qualities of future healthcare leaders—taking responsibility, communicating early, supporting the team, speaking up for safety, accepting feedback, and remaining human even under pressure.

Interactive discussions and practical examples made the session engaging and relatable, while key messages on humility, teamwork, professional reputation, and learning from mistakes resonated strongly with the students. Dr. El-Gabbani concluded by emphasizing that technical excellence and human connection must go hand in hand, and that every student already has the ability to positively influence patients, families, and colleagues.

A meaningful and memorable session that reminded our future nurses that sometimes, one small act can make the biggest difference.
