Faculty Development Program on Implementation of E-Logbook using Moodle LMS

The College of Nursing organized a Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Implementation of E-Logbook using Moodle LMS” on 12th March 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lecture Hall 1. The session was conducted by Dr. Bassem Mohammed, Professor and Chair, Department of Restorative Dental Health. The program was arranged at the request of the University administration with the objective of enhancing faculty competence in the use of digital platforms for academic documentation, monitoring, and assessment. The FDP was attended by approximately 75-100 faculty members from various Colleges across the University, reflecting a strong institutional interest in adopting innovative teaching-learning strategies.

Faculty Development Program

During the session, Dr. Bassem Mohammed provided a comprehensive overview of the concept and significance of E-logbooks in higher education. He explained how digital logbooks can serve as an effective tool for recording, tracking, and evaluating student performance, particularly in clinical and practice-based disciplines. Drawing from his experience, he demonstrated the implementation of Moodle-based logbooks used in the Master’s program in Endodontics. This real-time example enabled participants to understand the practical aspects of designing and maintaining E-logbooks, including structuring entries, documenting clinical procedures, and monitoring student progress over time.

The demonstration highlighted how faculty can utilize Moodle LMS to provide timely feedback, ensure transparency in assessment, and generate reports for academic evaluation and accreditation purposes. The speaker emphasized that E-logbooks significantly reduce the burden of manual documentation, improve accessibility of records, and enhance the accuracy and reliability of data. The session also addressed the adaptability of this system across different disciplines, encouraging faculty to explore its integration into their respective programs.

The FDP was highly relevant to the College of Nursing, as the implementation of E-logbooks can greatly support clinical skill documentation, competency-based assessment, and continuous evaluation of students during their training. Faculty members actively participated in the session, engaging in discussions, and raising queries regarding feasibility, customization, and implementation strategies within their departments. The interactive nature of the session facilitated a better understanding of the practical challenges and potential solutions.

Overall, the program was informative and beneficial, providing valuable insights into the effective use of Moodle LMS for academic and clinical documentation. The session successfully created awareness among faculty members about the importance of digital tools in education and motivated them to consider the adoption of E-logbooks in their teaching practices. The FDP marked an important step towards strengthening technology-enabled learning and improving the quality of education within the University.
