The College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, College of Health Sciences, successfully organized a Faculty Development Program titled “Qualitative Research: From Paradigm to Publication” on 30 June 2026 at Lecture Hall 12. The session was delivered by Dr. Salma Elnour Rahma, Associate Professor of Microbiology, College of Health Sciences, who shared her expertise on the principles and practice of qualitative research in health professions education.
The program provided faculty members with a comprehensive overview of qualitative research, beginning with its philosophical foundations, and progressing through research design, sampling strategies, data collection methods, thematic analysis, ethical considerations, and strategies for publishing qualitative studies in peer-reviewed journals. Practical examples from healthcare and educational research helped participants understand the application of different qualitative methodologies and the importance of maintaining rigor and trustworthiness throughout the research process.
The session was highly interactive, with faculty actively engaging in discussions on selecting appropriate qualitative designs, achieving data saturation, ensuring credibility and dependability, using qualitative data analysis software, and addressing common challenges encountered during publication. Participants also exchanged ideas on integrating qualitative approaches into their own research and educational projects.
The Faculty Development Program served as an excellent platform for enhancing research capacity among faculty members and reinforced Gulf Medical University’s commitment to promoting scholarly excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and high-quality research in health professions education. Participants appreciated the practical insights and engaging discussions, making the session both informative and valuable for their future research endeavours.
