Community Engagement Activity: World Down Syndrome Day

Community Engagement on World Down Syndrome Day

The MSNCCN students of year I & II organized a meaningful community engagement program titled Together Against Loneliness” in observance of World Down Syndrome Day on April 21, 2026, at Al Qassimi Women and Children’s Hospital – Down Syndrome Clinic.

The event brought together 20 children with Down syndrome and their families, creating a warm and inclusive environment that fostered connection, participation, and joy. The program was facilitated by MSN (Neonatal Critical Care Nursing) students under the guidance of faculty members.

A variety of interactive and therapeutic activities were conducted, including creative expression sessions (colouring, finger painting, and clay therapy), music and movement activities, speech and communication exercises using flashcards, and cognitive play sessions such as puzzles and matching games. These activities were designed to enhance children’s developmental skills while encouraging social interaction and family involvement.

The event was well received, with active participation from children and positive feedback from parents. It highlighted the importance of inclusive community initiatives in supporting the emotional well-being and development of children with Down syndrome.

This initiative reflects the College of Nursing’s continued commitment to community engagement, holistic care, and the promotion of inclusive health practices.
