Community Engagement Program on Headache & Migraine Awareness Day

Community Engagement Program

As part of its commitment to community outreach, health promotion, and preventive healthcare, the Master of Science in Renal & Dialysis Nursing (MSRDN) Semester 2 students from the College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University, conducted a Community Engagement Program on 08 July 2026 at the Outpatient Department (OPD), Dubai Hospital. The program was organized in observance of Headache & Migraine Awareness Day with the aim of increasing public awareness regarding headache disorders, particularly migraine, enhancing understanding of headache types, identifying warning signs, recognizing common triggers, and promoting effective prevention and self-management strategies. The initiative also emphasized the importance of timely medical consultation for individuals experiencing recurrent, persistent, or severe headaches.

The program focused on educating the public about the causes, types, symptoms, and warning signs associated with headaches and migraines while promoting awareness of lifestyle modifications and preventive strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of migraine episodes. Participants were encouraged to recognize personal headache patterns, maintain healthy lifestyle practices, and seek appropriate medical advice when required. The activity also provided MSRDN Semester 2 students with an opportunity to enhance their communication, patient education, teamwork, and leadership skills through active community participation.

Headache & Migraine Awareness Day

A variety of interactive educational activities were conducted to facilitate participant engagement and effective learning. These included the distribution of educational brochures and awareness leaflets related to headache and migraine prevention and management, individual health education sessions conducted by MSRDN students, and the display of informative posters highlighting different types of headaches, common migraine triggers, warning signs, treatment options, and preventive measures. Participants were also educated on the importance of maintaining a headache diary to identify possible triggers and monitor headache patterns. Demonstrations on stress reduction techniques, adequate hydration, sleep hygiene, relaxation exercises, and healthy lifestyle modifications were conducted to support headache prevention and improve overall well-being.

The awareness campaign received active participation from patients, caregivers, visitors, and healthcare professionals attending the OPD during the program hours. Participants interacted positively with the students, sought clarification regarding headache symptoms, triggers, and management options, and appreciated the practical information and educational resources provided.

Community Engagement Program

The community engagement initiative successfully promoted awareness regarding headache and migraine management through interactive education and direct community involvement. The program reflects the College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University’s commitment to community service, preventive healthcare, and experiential learning opportunities that prepare nursing students to contribute effectively to health promotion beyond the clinical environment. The enthusiastic participation and positive feedback received from the community highlight the importance of continued health awareness initiatives in empowering individuals to recognize symptoms early, adopt healthy lifestyle practices, and seek timely healthcare support when needed.
