Introduction: The College of Nursing at Gulf Medical University conducted a hybrid career advising session titled “How to Build Your LinkedIn Account” on 6th November 2025. The session, led by Mr. Bilal Al Juboori, Clinical Pharmacy Alumni, was a resounding success, with students participating both in-person and via Zoom.
Session Objectives:
- To understand the importance of LinkedIn in building a professional identity and advancing a nursing career.
- To learn how to create a standout LinkedIn profile that effectively highlights clinical experience, volunteering, achievements, skills, and certifications.
- To develop networking strategies for connecting with alumni, healthcare institutions, and recruiters to explore career opportunities.
Description of the Career Advising Session: The speaker highlighted the importance of creating a professional digital identity and demonstrated how LinkedIn can be used effectively for networking, job search, showcasing clinical experience, portfolio, volunteering activities, achievements, and skills. Students were guided step-by-step on how to set up a strong LinkedIn profile, emphasizing the relevance of keywords, endorsements, and professional presentation.
A notable outcome of the session was that many students created or updated their LinkedIn profiles immediately and connected directly with the guest speaker for future networking and guidance.
Discussion and Reflection: The session was highly interactive, with students asking relevant questions on job searching, presenting their achievements, and demonstrating their strengths to recruiters. Mr. Bilal encouraged students to take up internships, emphasizing that internships add significant value to their portfolios and professional readiness.
Conclusion: The session concluded with a Certificate of Appreciation presented to Mr. Bilal Al Juboori by the Dean, acknowledging his contribution to student professional development. The students expressed that the session was extremely beneficial and timely in preparing them for future career opportunities.
