As part of the commitment to promote health education and community engagement, the BSN 2022 cohort of CoN, GMU, organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Program at Al Qassimi Women and Children’s Hospital, Sharjah on 13th October 2025. The initiative aimed to spread awareness on prevention, early detection and the importance of self-examination in combating breast cancer.
The event carried the theme “Every story is unique, every journey matters.” The event attracted hospital staff, patients, and visitors, all of whom participated enthusiastically in the activities.
One of the most heartwarming moments of the event was the participation of tiny tots from a local nursery who joined the campaign dressed in pink outfits and wearing breast cancer awareness headbands. Their cheerful presence added a sprinkle of joy and innocence, making them the show-stoppers of the day. They distributed pink ribbons and tokens of encouragement, reminding everyone that awareness begins at every age.

Another major highlight was the Breast Self-Examination (BSE) demonstration station, where nursing students used manikins to show the difference between a normal breast and one with a potential lump. They explained the steps of self-examination, when it should be done, and the importance of seeking medical attention if abnormalities are noticed. This interactive and educational session drew significant attention and appreciation from visitors.
The students’ meticulous preparation and teamwork paid off as the event saw active engagement from Al Qassimi Hospital staff, patients, and visitors.
Many attendees expressed that the sessions were informative, empowering, and motivating, encouraging them to prioritize regular screening and breast health awareness.
The Breast Cancer Awareness 2025 community engagement program was a remarkable success, combining education, empathy, and enthusiasm.

The collaborative efforts of the BSN students, faculty members, and hospital staff fostered a spirit of service and compassion, strengthening the university’s commitment to community health promotion.
The initiative effectively promoted early detection and health-seeking behavior, aligning with SDG 3 by advocating preventive health practices and community awareness.
