The College of Nursing at Gulf Medical University conducted a focused academic seminar for MSR&DN students in collaboration with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMCA). The event aimed to enhance postgraduate nursing students’ clinical competence in renal replacement therapies and peritoneal dialysis management. The program provided a structured platform for expert‑led discussions, case‑based learning, and student presentation, strengthening the integration of theory with clinical practice.
The seminar began with a Welcome Address by the Organizing Committee, marking the start of an academically engaging session. The Session was attended by 20 Nurses from SKMCA. The first lecture, “Renal Replacement Therapy,” was delivered by Dr. Sija Binoy and Dr. Manju Avinash Nair, who elaborated on modalities of renal replacement, indications, and clinical decision‑making.
This was followed by a case‑based session on “Complications and Challenges in Management of Peritoneal Dialysis Patient,” presented by Ms. Shyni Kunju, Charge Nurse, Renal Unit at SKMCA. The session emphasized real‑world challenges such as infection control, catheter issues, and patient education. The third session, “Evidence‑Based Nursing Assessment in Patients Receiving Peritoneal Dialysis,” was presented by MSR&DN First Year Students Ms. Ayan Mohammed Jama and Ms. Hamdi Ismail Ali. Their presentation showcased the importance of structured assessment, early detection of complications, and adherence to evidence‑based guidelines. The seminar concluded with Feedback & Valedictory, acknowledging contributions from speakers and participants, and reinforcing the importance of continuous professional development.
The seminar successfully achieved its objectives by strengthening students’ understanding of renal replacement therapy and peritoneal dialysis management. The combination of expert lectures, case‑based discussions, and student presentations enriched the learning experience.
