College of Medicine, GMU Promotes Student Well-Being Through Resilience and Mental Health Awareness Session

Student Well-Being Awareness Session details

On 9 April 2026, the College of Medicine Community Engagement Committee, in collaboration with the Student Well-being Center (SWC) at Gulf Medical University (GMU), organized an online awareness session titled “Student Well-Being: Building Resilience, Balance, and Success in Times of Crisis.”

The session was facilitated by Dr. Mayssah El Nayal, Senior Professor of Clinical Psychology and Personality and Director of the Student Well-being Center (SWC). The event was attended by students through an interactive Zoom platform and aimed to enhance their psychological well-being by addressing key topics such as resilience, stress management, emotional balance, and effective coping strategies during challenging times.

Through engaging discussions and practical guidance, participants explored common stressors affecting academic and personal life and learned evidence-based approaches to maintaining mental well-being and achieving academic success. The session also emphasized the importance of fostering a supportive and positive learning environment that promotes both personal growth and student success.

The timely organization of this session by the College of Medicine Community Engagement Committee, under the leadership of Dr. Mohammed Abdulrazzaq, Chair of the Committee, was particularly valuable as students were navigating challenges arising from regional developments and uncertainties. The initiative provided a platform for reflection, support, and the sharing of practical strategies to enhance resilience and well-being during difficult circumstances.

This activity reflects the GMU’s ongoing commitment to student well-being, mental health awareness, and meaningful community engagement. It also contributes to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting mental health, resilience, and a supportive learning environment for students.
