A research team from College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University secured Second Place in the poster presentation category at the 7th Internal Medicine Update Conference 2025, hosted at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi held 16th November 2025. The paper was also judged as one of the top ten papers accepted for presentation at the conference.

The award-winning poster, titled “Vector-Borne Diseases in the MENA Region and Their Link to Climate Change: A Narrative Review,” explored the growing public health implications of climate change on infectious disease patterns across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The study highlights the importance of climate-responsive public health strategies and aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3– Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 13 – Climate Action, while supporting the UAE Vision 2031 focus on public health resilience and climate preparedness.
The study was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Jayakumary Muttappallymyalil, with academic guidance and support from Professor Jayadevan Sreedharan and Dr. Anusha Sreejith of the Department of Community Medicine. The poster was presented by Sneha Reji, MPH graduate and Mustafa Sarmad Al Hamdani, MBBS student at the conference.
This recognition reflects a shared commitment to impactful research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing public health priorities relevant to the MENA region.
