A Journey of Lifelong Learning
By Dr. Faten
GMU Convocation 2025, on the 19th of November, will forever remain a highlight of my career.
After more than 15 years in academia, serving as a Professor of Medical Physiology—including 5 enriching years at GMU—I walked across the stage once again, this time not as faculty, but as a fresh graduate completing my Master’s in Health Professions Education (MHPE).
My feelings were unique. It was a powerful blend of the wisdom and confidence of a senior professor mixed with the eagerness and excitement of a newly graduated student—
a moment where two versions of myself met.
“Yes, I did it.”
This achievement is proof of one simple truth: the passion to learn has no age, no limit, and no finish line.
Starting this degree while teaching, mentoring, researching, and balancing countless responsibilities was not easy, but it was deeply fulfilling. Lifelong learning is not just a philosophy we teach—it is a journey we must live.
My sincere gratitude goes to the Chancellor, my mentors, colleagues, students, and everyone who supported me along the way. Your encouragement kept me moving forward.
I look forward to applying what I have learned to enrich medical education, empower future healthcare professionals, and continue contributing to GMU’s vibrant academic community.
