GMU Commemorates Biomedical Science Day led by Students

The College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University in Ajman celebrated its inaugural Biomedical Science Day on May 6th, 2024. Orchestrated and led by the dynamic duo of final-year students from the Bachelor of Biomedical Science (BBMS) program, Ms. Serene Regi John and Ms. Shaniya Michaelanto Stumen, the occasion was a significant milestone in the university’s dedication to nurturing student leadership and creativity within the biomedical science domain.

Under the guidance of Dr. Preetha J Shetty, Program Director of Biomedical Science, the students curated an engaging and informative program that showcased the importance of various courses taught throughout the years of study and engaging audience with fun-filled games and activities. From interactive stalls to insightful poster presentations, the event provided a platform for students to exchange ideas and explore the diversity of biomedical science.

The occasion was graced by esteemed dignitaries including Chancellor Prof. Hossam Hamdy, Vice Chancellor Academics & Dean, College of Medicine, Dr. Manda Venkatramana and Associate Dean Academics Prof. Salah Eldin Kassab, whose unwavering support and encouragement bolstered the success of the event.

Recognition should be extended to the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) for generously funding the event, as their support was instrumental in ensuring the success of the Biomedical Science Day at Gulf Medical University.

Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Vice-Chancellor Academics, expressed great enthusiasm and appreciation for the event’s success and significance, affirming, “I congratulate the leadership and students of the BBMS program for organizing this event. We are also proud of the fact that our BBMS program is internationally accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, UK and certified by the Board of Certification of American Society Clinical Pathology International, USA, which is a testimony of our commitment to a culture of quality.”

“This initiative empowers students to take ownership of their education and become future leaders in the field” said Dr. Preetha J Shetty, Program Director of Biomedical Science.

Ms. Serene emphasized saying, “the purpose of hosting a Biomedical Science Day is to highlight the importance of this emerging field as well as set an example for the junior students to get together and celebrate every year”. Shaniya echoed her sentiments and said, “I gained an invaluable learning experience through organizing such an impactful event”.
