The College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University (GMU) welcomed aspiring future doctors on 6–7 July 2026 for an immersive experiential learning program as part of GMU’s flagship “Aspire to Become a Doctor” Summer Program. The College hosted the opening two-day experience, introducing high school students to the realities of medical education through interactive, hands-on learning.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Nelofar Sami Khan, Senior Faculty and Head of Biomedical Sciences, and Dr. Janita Pinto, Director of the International Foundation Program, who introduced participants to the medical education pathway and the opportunities offered by the MD program.
Students explored GMU’s state-of-the-art learning facilities, including the Anatomy Laboratory, where they gained hands-on exposure to anatomical models, cadaveric specimens, microscopy, and the Anatomage Table, an advanced digital anatomy platform that enables interactive 3D visualization and virtual dissection. Participants also practiced basic clinical skills, including blood pressure measurement, BMI assessment, and blood glucose estimation, reinforcing the importance of preventive healthcare and patient-centered practice.
The learning experience extended to Thumbay University Hospital, where students toured modern clinical facilities and gained insight into multidisciplinary healthcare delivery. At the Thumbay Institute of Clinical Simulation, they participated in interactive first aid and CPR workshops, developing essential life-saving skills in a realistic simulation environment.
Faculty members, senior medical students, interns, and healthcare professionals engaged with participants throughout the program, sharing their academic journeys and professional experiences while providing valuable mentorship and career guidance.
By combining experiential learning, advanced educational technologies, and authentic clinical exposure, the College of Medicine provided participants with a meaningful introduction to the medical profession and empowered them to make informed decisions about pursuing a career in medicine.
