The College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University (GMU), in collaboration with the Promotion Department, successfully hosted an engaging MD and HDPCS Open House on 4 July 2026, welcoming more than 160 enthusiastic high school students and prospective applicants for an exclusive hands-on introduction to the world of medical education. The remarkable turnout reflected the growing interest in GMU’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme and reaffirmed the University’s reputation as one of the region’s leading destinations for aspiring healthcare professionals.
Designed around the theme “From Cadavers to Clinical Simulators: Experience the Journey of a Future Doctor,” the event offered participants an authentic glimpse into the life of a medical student through a series of immersive and experiential learning activities.
Students explored the Human Anatomy Laboratory, where they observed anatomical specimens and learned how cadaver-based teaching forms the foundation of clinical understanding and medical education. They also visited the Thumbay Institute of Clinical Simulation (TICS) to experience advanced clinical skills training using high-fidelity patient simulators that replicate real-life clinical scenarios, providing a realistic insight into modern healthcare practice.
One of the most exciting highlights of the event was the hands-on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) workshop, where students actively practiced essential life-saving skills under the guidance of experienced faculty members. Participants enthusiastically performed chest compressions on simulation manikins, learned the fundamentals of Basic Life Support (BLS), and gained practical experience in responding to medical emergencies.
The programme concluded with an engaging interactive session, where students and their parents met faculty members to learn more about the MD curriculum, admissions process, career pathways, student support services, and campus life at Gulf Medical University. The session provided an excellent opportunity for participants to have their questions answered directly by academic leaders. Certificates of participation were presented to all attendees in recognition of their enthusiastic participation throughout the programme.
The event was led by Prof. Nelofar Sami Khan, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Chair of the Admissions Committee, College of Medicine, together with Dr. Ramya Rathan, Associate Dean (Academics), College of Medicine, and Dr. Janita Pinto, Director, Foundation Program, who guided participants through the various academic and experiential components of the programme. They were supported by faculty members from Anatomy and Clinical Skills, including Dr. Ayesha Saba, Dr. Liju Mathew, Dr. Roba Kamaleldin, Dr. Syed Owais, and Dr. Ritwik Sankaran, whose expertise and enthusiasm created an engaging, interactive, and inspiring learning experience for all participants.
The College of Medicine extends its sincere appreciation to the Promotion Department, faculty members, staff, student volunteers, and everyone involved in organising the event. Their dedication, teamwork, and collective efforts were instrumental in making the Open House a memorable and highly successful experience.
