The College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University, through its Community Engagement Committee, collaborated with Thumbay University Hospital and the Ajman Department of Economic Development to conduct a health promotion initiative on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) during the Dakaken Ajman entrepreneurship event on 27 February 2026.
The initiative focused on raising community awareness about common NCDs, including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cardiovascular diseases, while emphasizing the importance of prevention through healthy lifestyle choices and regular health screening. Medical students from the MD and HDPCS programs actively participated in delivering health education and engaging with visitors throughout the event.
A total of around 100 community members visited the health promotion station, where they received free health assessments, including height, weight, and blood pressure measurements, as well as educational information on disease prevention and risk reduction. Visitors were also provided with complimentary skincare products generously donated by Thumbay University Hospital.
The activity provided students with valuable experiential learning opportunities in community-based health promotion while strengthening collaborative partnerships among Gulf Medical University, Thumbay University Hospital, and the Ajman Department of Economic Development to support public health initiatives.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Mohammed Abdulrazzaq and Dr. Hiba Ali El Zaki, with the support of Dr. Anusha Sreejith, Prof. Shatha Al Sharbatti, Prof. Jayadevan Sreedharan, Dr. Jayakumary Muttappallymyalil, and Ms. Maisoon Al Edwan from Thumbay University Hospital.
This initiative contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting community health awareness and providing meaningful learning experiences for future healthcare professionals.
