Navigating Residency Pathways Career Advising

The College of Medicine, GMU, organized a career-advising session on the Emirates Medical Residency Entrance Examination (EMREE) and residency pathways in the UAE on April 27, 2026. The session was delivered by Dr. Purnima Singh, a top performer in the MBBS program, who graduated in 2024 and is currently a first-year resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology at American Hospital in Dubai, UAE. The topics she discussed included documentation, exam structure, application process, and qualifying requirements across different institutions such as MBRU, DHA, DOH, and EHS, emphasizing the importance of strong applications, MMIs, and specialty interviews. She also discussed the benefits of ACGME accreditation and the differences between the Arab Board and Emirati Board examinations. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session where students asked about exam limits, GPA requirements, hospital accreditations, and interview preparation strategies. Dr. Purnima addressed each query with clarity and shared valuable recommendations drawn from her professional journey. Reflecting on the experience, Ms. Priya Pardasani, a final year MBBS student, commented “I found the EMREE career advising session genuinely supportive and insightful. Dr. Purnima offered personalized guidance on our transition from medical school to residency”.

Speaking about the occasion, Prof. Salman Yousuf Guraya, Dean of the College of Medicine, highlighted the importance of organizing sessions that provide insights into career opportunities. He stressed that structured career guidance initiatives equip students with a clear understanding of requirements, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future career pathways. The session was organized and moderated by Dr. Mehzabin Ahmed, Chair of the Career Advising Committee, COM.
