Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences (BSc. MLS) students from CoHS, GMU participated in a Student Workshop on Blood Transfusion Science organized by the Sharjah Blood Transfusion & Research Center on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), Sharjah.

The workshop brought together students from Gulf Medical University, Higher Colleges of Technology, and the University of Sharjah, fostering inter-institutional academic interaction and professional exchange. A total of 57 BSc. MLS students from Semester 8 and Semester 6 attended the workshop, accompanied by faculty members.
The program offered valuable insights into contemporary practices in blood transfusion science, covering key areas such as donor screening, blood component preparation, quality assurance, and transfusion safety. Through expert-led sessions and discussions, students gained a deeper understanding of the standards and protocols followed in transfusion medicine and laboratory services.

Participation in this workshop served as a meaningful co-curricular learning experience, enabling students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world laboratory practices. Such exposure plays a vital role in preparing future medical laboratory professionals for clinical responsibilities and professional practice.
The BSc. MLS program continues to emphasize experiential learning by encouraging student participation in external academic and professional activities that strengthen technical competence, professional awareness, and clinical readiness.
Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean, CoHS, GMU, appreciated the initiative and stated, “Participation in such specialized workshops is essential for bridging classroom learning with clinical application. He highlighted that exposure to real-world practices in transfusion science enhances students’ professional confidence and prepares them to meet evolving healthcare standards.”
