Exceptional Success for CoHS – MSc. MLS Student at Laboratory Insights for Excellence (Life) 2025 Competition

CoHS’ Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MSc. MLS) student Ms. Salsabeel Mohammad Sharief Moshewh (Reg No: 2023MSCMLS08) secured second place in the poster presentation at the PureLab (LIFE) – Laboratory Insights for Excellence 2025 competition, held on 11–12 November 2025 at Sofitel Hotel, Abu Dhabi. The project was completed under the supervision of Dr. Sara Mohammed Ali, Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences.

Poster titled, “Molecular Characterization of Efflux Resistance Genes mef(A), msr(D), and tet(K) in Streptococcus Species Isolated from Clinical Samples of Patients at Thumbay Hospital, Ajman, UAE.” This accomplishment reflects the growing strength of student-led research within the Medical Laboratory Sciences program and shows how student work is evolving into meaningful scientific contributions. The achievement aligns with the Ministry of Education’s Outcomes-Based Framework, particularly the Student Participation in Research KPI (15%), reaffirming the university’s commitment to inquiry, innovation and evidence-based practice among learners.

Dr. Sara expressed her pride in the achievement, noting that it highlights the program’s commitment to building strong research skills and translating scientific inquiry into practical impact.

Dr. Ahmed Luay Osman Hashim, Chairperson, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences praised the milestone and shared, “Competitions like LIFE 2025 help shape the next generation of laboratory professionals. He noted that this recognition reflects the value of quality education, hard work and teamwork.”

Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, stated, “Such milestones reinforce the College & GMU’s dedication to nurturing a research-active academic environment and preparing students to become future leaders in medical laboratory science.”
