Gulf Medical University (GMU) was honoured as a Unified Healthcare Partner for its contributions to inclusive healthcare at THE Special Olympics UAE HEALTHY COMMUNITY AWARDING CEREMONY held on 11 November 2025 at Murban Hall, Abu Dhabi Energy Center.
The Healthy Community program is one of the key initiatives of Special Olympics UAE, aimed at improving access to healthcare for people of determination across the Emirates. The ceremony recognised institutions and individuals who continue to support and promote inclusive health practices.
Dr Meruna Bose, Associate Professor, College of Health Sciences, trained as Clinical Director, FunFitness, received the award on behalf of GMU. This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to accessible and equitable healthcare for all communities.
Faculty members from the College of Health Sciences, including Dr Rizwana Hussaindeen, trained as Clinical Director, Opening Eyes (Vision and Eye Health), and Dr Maha Zaitoun, trained as Clinical Director, Healthy Hearing (Audiology), also took part in the event. They engaged with the organisers and celebrated the milestone achievement.
Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean, College of Health Sciences, congratulated the faculty and appreciated the recognition received by the university and stated, “This honour reflects GMU’s strong focus on community engagement, health equity and training healthcare professionals who are prepared to support inclusive practices across the UAE.”
