The Department of Medical Imaging Sciences, College of Health Sciences (CoHS), Gulf Medical University (GMU), officially welcomed the 2026 cohort of Master of Science in Medical Ultrasound (MSc. MUS) students through a comprehensive orientation session on August 26, 2026.
The programme opened with an inspiring welcome address by Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean of CoHS, who emphasized GMU’s mission of preparing skilled imaging professionals who combine innovation, precision, and patient-centered care. He said, “Your journey in medical ultrasound begins here at GMU, where cutting-edge technology meets world-class expertise. We are committed to supporting you as you advance your knowledge and contribute to the future of medical imaging.”
The orientation was coordinated by Dr. Rawashdeh, Associate Dean – Academics, Professor, Chairperson, Department of Medical Imaging Sciences, who led the online orientation session and warmly welcomed the new cohort to the Master of Science in Medical Ultrasound (MSc. MUS) program. He provided students with an overview of the advanced scope and structure of the program, highlighting the importance of advanced clinical practice, critical thinking, research, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making in medical ultrasound. He encouraged students to make the most of the learning opportunities available throughout the program and emphasized the importance of professionalism, continuous development, and patient-centered care in becoming competent and confident ultrasound professionals.
Subsequently, Dr. Ahmed Abdelrahim, Professor, Department of Medical Imaging Sciences, provided an in-depth overview of the academic calendar, university policies, academic integrity standards, and programme expectations. Dr. Shima Ibrahim, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Imaging Sciences, conducted the Semester Coordinator’s Session, offering students an orientation to the Semester 1 courses, weekly schedule, and assessment methods, helping them begin their academic journey with clarity and confidence.
Students were also introduced to key university resources and support services, including:
- Learning Management System and Folio 360: Mr. Suraj Sebastian provided an overview of essential digital tools to support academic learning and engagement.
- Registrar’s Office: Mr. Aslam Kutty briefed students on administrative processes and registration procedures.
- Library Services: Dr. Ramprasad M. introduced students to GMU’s extensive research and study resources.
- Student Affairs: Dr. Zeina Mazloum highlighted student wellness initiatives, engagement opportunities, and support services.
With access to advanced ultrasound laboratories and cutting-edge imaging facilities, GMU reaffirms its dedication to producing highly trained ultrasound professionals who are equipped to lead innovations in diagnostic imaging.
The event concluded with refreshments and networking opportunities, setting the tone for an academic journey of collaboration and growth.
