Gulf Medical University (GMU), through its College of Health Sciences (CoHS), has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Special Olympics UAE at Danat Al Ain Resort, UAE on 26 August 2025, setting a new benchmark in inclusive healthcare education and services in the region.
The collaboration highlights GMU’s leadership in preparing future-ready healthcare professionals with advanced training to provide equitable and compassionate care for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, emphasized the significance of the partnership, “This collaboration aligns perfectly with CoHS’ mission to create globally competent, compassionate healthcare professionals. By integrating inclusive health modules into our curriculum, facilitating hands-on experience through screenings, and encouraging active student participation, we are empowering the next generation of healthcare providers to serve every individual with dignity and excellence.”
Key focus areas of this transformative MoU include:
- Supporting medical screening and care under the Healthy Athletes Program
- Creating Unified Healthcare Training Programs for GMU faculty, staff, and clinic personnel
- Training GMU students in inclusive health communication and treatment
- Providing follow-up care and treatment for Special Olympics athletes through GMU’s clinics
- Facilitating joint research projects and academic collaboration
- Offering internship and volunteering opportunities for GMU students at Special Olympics events
- Incorporating inclusive healthcare modules into the CoHS curriculum
Special Olympics UAE’s expertise in empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities complements GMU’s commitment to excellence in medical education, ensuring that future healthcare professionals graduate with a strong foundation in inclusive care.
