Dr. Rizwana Hussaindeen, Associate Professor and Program Director of Optometry and Vision Sciences at the CoHS, GMU, was a featured speaker at World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS) Webinar Season 7, Episode 1, titled, “BABY STEPS INTO PAEDIATRIC OPHTHALMOLOGY: A GLOBAL RESIDENT MASTERCLASS”, held virtually on 17 January 2026.
Dr. Rizwana’s talk on Practical Orthoptic Assessment for Strabismus and Binocular Vision in Myopia, formed part of an international masterclass series designed for ophthalmology residents addressed real-world clinical challenges in evaluating paediatric patients. Using case-based examples, Dr. Rizwana shared step-by-step approaches to assessing binocular vision and ocular alignment, with emphasis on children presenting with strabismus and paediatric myopia. The session offered practical insights that residents can directly apply in routine clinical practice.
The webinar was streamed live through the WSPOS YouTube platform and supported the society’s ongoing efforts to enhance global training through collaborative, multidisciplinary learning. The program reinforced the importance of integrating optometry and ophthalmology expertise to improve outcomes in paediatric eye care.
