BSc. MLS Students of CoHS Win First Place at LABQ 2026

Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences program at the College of Health Sciences, Gulf Medical University, secured first place at the ‘THIRD EDITION OF LABQ 2026’, an inter college quiz competition for senior MLS students. The event was held on 12 February 2026 at the Dubai World Trade Centre as part of WHX Labs Dubai 2026, formerly known as Medlab Middle East.

Representing GMU, Mr. Joebert Abenes Buenaventura (2022ML02) and Ms. Yaseerah Mohammed Salim Shaikh (2022ML06) demonstrated strong subject knowledge, analytical thinking, and teamwork throughout the competition. Competing against senior MLS students from six programs across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, the team emerged as overall champions.

The students were mentored by Mr. Marwan Ismail, Faculty, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, whose guidance and academic support played a key role in their success.

LabQ 2026 was organized by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in collaboration with Unilabs one of Europe’s largest diagnostic service providers. The competition aims to promote academic excellence, professional competence, and collaboration among future medical laboratory professionals in the region.

In recognition of their achievement, the winners met with Dr. Praveen Kumar, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of GMU, who congratulated them on their outstanding performance and for bringing pride to the university.

This accomplishment highlights the strength of the BSc. MLS program and its commitment to preparing highly competent laboratory professionals ready to contribute to modern healthcare systems.
