Prof. Walid Elsayed, Associate Dean Academics, College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU), delivered an insightful talk titled “Operationalizing NIHS Guidelines: The GMU Model” at the Emirati Conference on Medical Education 2026, held at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, Abu Dhabi on the 7th– 8th of February 2026.
The session addressed key challenges in translating National Institutional Health Standards (NIHS) from regulatory frameworks into practical academic and clinical applications within health professions education. Prof. Walid outlined GMU’s structured approach to embedding NIHS requirements across institutional governance, curriculum design, teaching & learning strategies, assessment systems, and quality assurance processes.
Drawing on GMU’s experience, the talk highlighted evidence informed alignment of program outcomes, assessment blueprints, faculty development, and continuous quality improvement with national accreditation expectations. Emphasis was placed on bridging policy intent with day-to-day educational practice to ensure compliance while enhancing educational quality and patient-centered outcomes.
The presentation positioned GMU’s NIHS implementation model as a benchmark for institutional excellence.
