Prof. Hesham Marei, Vice Chancellor Academics, and the Dean of College of Dentistry (CoD), Gulf Medical University (GMU), represented GMU, at the Planmeca organized scientific event titled “Tomorrow’s Dentistry Today – How AI-Powered Workflows Are Transforming Modern Clinics,” held on the 12th of November at the V Hotel Dubai, Curio Collection by Hilton, Al Habtoor City, Dubai.
Prof. Hesham Marei delivered two impactful and evidence-driven lectures. His first talk, “AI-Driven Dentistry: Bridging Technology, Innovation, and Patient Care,” explored how artificial intelligence is reshaping every specialty in dentistry such as oral surgery, restorative dentistry, periodontics, orthodontics, prosthodontics, implantology, and oral pathology. Prof. Hesham highlighted how AI enhances diagnostic accuracy, improves treatment planning, accelerates clinical workflows, and supports patient-specific decision-making. He also emphasized the growing body of scientific literature validating AI algorithms for radiographic interpretation, caries detection, cephalometric tracing, periodontal evaluation, and surgical navigation.
In his second lecture, “The Role of CBCT in Maxillary Sinus Bone Grafting,” Prof. Hesham presented the essential contributions of CBCT technology in pre-operative assessment, anatomical mapping, and risk reduction during sinus augmentation procedures. He discussed CBCT-based evaluation of sinus septa, residual bone height, Schneiderian membrane integrity, and volumetric measurements crucial for implant planning. The session highlighted how high-resolution 3D imaging improves surgical predictability and enhances long-term implant success.
Faculty members from the College of Dentistry attended the event, engaging in discussions on emerging digital technologies and their integration into modern clinical practice. The collaboration with industry partner Planmeca further strengthened the link between academic excellence and cutting-edge innovations shaping the future of dentistry.
