MDS Periodontics Postgraduate Students Dr. Athraa Ali, Dr. Leena Waleed Khalid, and Dr. Fatema Aref Ali Ramadhan Successfully Defend their Research Theses

The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University, proudly announces the successful thesis defenses of Dr. Athraa Ali, Dr. Leena Waleed Khalid, and Dr. Fatema Aref Ali Ramadhan, postgraduate students of the MDS Periodontics Program, held on the 24th of October 2025.

Dr. Athraa Ali presented her research titled “Investigating Awareness and the Impact of Interdental Brushing on Gingival Health Status and Oral Malodor in Pregnant Women: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial,” under the supervision of Dr. Bhavna Jha Kukreja, MDS Periodontics Program Director, and Assistant Professor of Periodontics, CoD. The examination panel included Dr. Betul Rahman, Associate Professor, University of Sharjah as external examiner, and Dr. Mohamed Atef, Assistant Professor of Periodontics, CoD, GMU as an Internal Examiner.

Dr. Leena Waleed Khalid defended her thesis titled “Assessing the Impact of Interdental Brushing on Gingival Health and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Individuals with Fixed Prosthesis,” supervised by Dr. Yahya Amer, Assistant Professor of Periodontics, CoD. Her defense was evaluated by Dr. Sunaina Shetty, Assistant Professor, University of Sharjah as external examiner, and Dr. Bhavna Jha Kukreja, MDS Periodontics Program Director and Assistant Professor of Periodontics, CoD as an Internal Examiner.

Dr. Fatema Aref Ali Ramadhan presented her research titled “Investigating the Influence of Interdental Calibrated Brushes on Gingival Health Status in Orthodontic Patients: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Study,” under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Atef, Assistant Professor of Periodontics, CoD. The examination panel included Dr. Anirudh B. Acharya, Assistant Professor, University of Sharjah as external examiner, and Dr. Nesma Shemais, Assistant Professor of Periodontics, CoD as an Internal Examiner.

The College congratulates all postgraduate students for their successful defenses, reflecting the program’s commitment to advancing evidence-based periodontal education and clinical research excellence.
