The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU), in collaboration with industry partner Dar AlEbdaa, organized a lecture and workshop titled “3D Imaging X-Ray (CBCT) in Modern Dentistry” for dental interns on the 20th of October 2025. The session was conducted by Dr. Moutaz Abdul Majed, Periodontist, Damascus University, and Vatech Authorized Trainer.
The event offered scientific insights into the role of Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in contemporary dental diagnostics and treatment planning. Dr.Moutaz explained the principles of CBCT imaging, including its three-dimensional reconstruction capability that allows for enhanced visualization of anatomical structures compared to traditional two-dimensional radiography. The lecture highlighted CBCT’s significant applications across various dental disciplines such as implantology, endodontics, periodontology, and orthodontics, enabling precise localization of anatomical landmarks, assessment of bone density, and evaluation of pathology.
During the hands-on segment, participants were guided through image acquisition, data interpretation, and software-based analysis, emphasizing radiation safety protocols and optimal scanning parameters for diagnostic accuracy with minimal exposure.
The event integrated technological advancements into dental education to enhance students’ clinical competence and readiness for modern dental practice.
