The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU), in collaboration with industry partners Al Farwaniya and Dentaurum, organized an advanced lecture titled “MARPE and Molar Distalization: Expanding Orthodontic Possibilities with Miniscrews” on the 16th of October 2025, at Thumbay University Hospital.
The lecture, delivered by Dr. Fady Hussein Fahim, Professor of Orthodontics, Cairo University, Egypt, was tailored for residents of the Orthodontic Residency Program. It provided an in-depth exploration of contemporary skeletal anchorage systems and their application in achieving maxillary expansion and molar distalization through the use of miniscrews.
Dr. Fady elaborated on the biomechanical principles underlying MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion), emphasizing its efficacy in managing transverse discrepancies in skeletally mature patients while minimizing undesirable dental effects. The session also covered the clinical protocols for molar distalization, focusing on force vector control, stability of miniscrew anchorage, and integration of digital planning for precise insertion and treatment outcomes.
The interactive session concluded with a discussion on case selection criteria, complications management, and the clinical advantages of combining MARPE with distalization mechanics to enhance patient-specific orthodontic treatment.
