The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University, successfully hosted a Lecture and Hands-On Workshop on “Efficient Orthodontic Mechanics and Techniques” on 31st of January and 1st of February 2026, in collaboration with industry partners MEC-SGS L.L.C and Ortho Arch. The academic program was led by Dr. Varun Kalra, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, School of Dental Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, U.S.A.
The lecture component focused on evidence-based orthodontic biomechanics, force systems, anchorage control, and strategies to enhance treatment efficiency. This was followed by an intensive hands-on workshop conducted at the SIMS Lab, allowing participants to apply biomechanical principles to contemporary orthodontic techniques. The program emphasized precision, predictability, and biologically sound tooth movement aligned with current orthodontic protocols.
Postgraduate orthodontic residents and specialists from Gulf Medical University, University of Sharjah, Ajman University, along with DHA-licensed orthodontic specialists, actively participated in the program. Participants engaged in case-based discussions and practical demonstrations supported by current scientific evidence.
