The College of Dentistry Conducted Emergency Preparedness Orientation to Support Resumption of Clinical Training at Gulf Medical University

The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU), conducted an Emergency Preparedness Orientation on the 30th of March 2026, to support the safe resumption of clinical training activities. This initiative aligns with Circular No. (2) of 2026 issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, under which GMU initiated the phased return to in-person clinical training postings.

The orientation sessions were organized for multiple cohorts, including BDS Year 3 and Year 4 students, Dental Interns, Orthodontic Residents, MDS Endodontics and Periodontics postgraduate students, and Dental Assistants, across designated venues at Thumbay Dental Hospital (TDH) and Thumbay University Hospital (TUH).

The program emphasized critical aspects of infection prevention and control, emergency response protocols, and patient safety, all of which are essential for ensuring safe and effective clinical practice. Participants were oriented to standardized procedures for managing medical emergencies, fire safety, and risk mitigation within dental healthcare environments.

Prior to attending the in-person sessions, all participants were required to complete an online fire safety training and assessment, reinforcing a blended, competency-based approach to learning.

This initiative highlights GMU’s commitment to upholding high standards of clinical education, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a safe and prepared clinical workforce.
