Dr. Bhavna Jha Kukreja invited as Judge at 14th International Students’ Dental Conference Debate Competition on Antibiotic Use in Periodontics

Dr. Bhavna Jha Kukreja, Associate Professor of Periodontics and Program Director of the MDS Periodontics Program, College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University, participated as a judge in the 14th International Students’ Dental Conference, held at the University of Sharjah on 1 February 2026, where she evaluated the inter-collegiate postgraduate debate competition in Periodontology.

The debate centered on the theme, “Systemic Antibiotics in Periodontics: Clinical Necessity vs. Global Responsibility,” highlighting contemporary concerns regarding the rational and responsible use of antibiotics in clinical practice. Discussions critically examined the indication of systemic antibiotics in non-surgical periodontal therapy and their role in implant-related procedures, weighing therapeutic benefits against the growing global concern of antimicrobial resistance.

As a judge, Dr. Bhavna evaluated participants on scientific rigor, strength of evidence-based arguments, analytical depth, and professional presentation skills. Her involvement contributed to developing critical thinking, ethical clinical decision-making, and responsible antibiotic prescribing practices among postgraduate students.
