The College of Dentistry (CoD), Gulf Medical University (GMU), in collaboration with its esteemed industry partner Curaden Academy, organized an exclusive Individually Trained Oral Prophylaxis (iTOP) session on “Effective Approaches to Supporting Optimal Oral Health” on the 1st of October 2025, for BDS Year 3 students, emphasizing the integration of evidence-based preventive strategies into daily clinical practice.

The session featured Dr. Franka Baranovic Huber, iTOP Lecturer and International Instructor, Switzerland, who delivered a hybrid lecture on the use of interdental brushes (IDBs) as a scientifically validated approach to achieving optimal plaque control and preventing periodontal disease. Complementing this, Dr. Jovita D’Souza, Specialist Periodontist and Dental Internship Program Director at CoD, GMU, conducted an in-person theory session focused on toothbrushing techniques, stressing the role of individualized oral hygiene education in preventing gingival inflammation and supporting long-term oral health.
The interactive agenda included a practical “Touch-2-Teach” session, where students actively practiced iTOP methods under expert guidance, reinforcing psychomotor skills and patient education techniques. The program concluded with an engaging Q&A session, providing an opportunity for students to clarify concepts and discuss clinical applications.
