The College of Dentistry at Gulf Medical University conducted the Thesis Defense of Dr. Jenan Khalil

The College of Dentistry the Thesis Defense
The College of Dentistry at Gulf Medical University conducted the Thesis Defense of Dr. Jenan Khalil, third-year MDS Periodontics postgraduate student, on the 11th of September 2026.

Her research, titled “A Comparative Study of Reactive Oxygen Species-Induced Senescence in Human Gingival Fibroblasts Following Long-Term Exposure to Cigarette Smoke Condensate and Nicotine: An In Vitro Study,” investigated the cellular mechanisms of smoking-induced oxidative stress. The study provides valuable insights into how long-term exposure to nicotine and cigarette smoke accelerates gingival fibroblast senescence, furthering our understanding of periodontal disease progression in smokers.

The thesis was supervised by Dr. Bhavna Jha (Associate Professor of Periodontics, GMU). The examination panel included External Examiner Dr. Anirudh Acharya (Assistant Professor, College of Dental Medicine, University of Sharjah) and Internal Examiner Dr. Mohamed Atef (Assistant Professor of Periodontics, GMU).

The college wishes Dr. Jenan Khalil many congratulations on the successful completion of her thesis defense!
