Year 5 dental students Sarah A. Salim and Youser H. Almaged, under the supervision of Prof. Sura Ali Fuoad Al Bayati, Professor of Oral Medicine and Head, Department of Diagnostic and Surgical Dental Sciences, College of Dentistry, GMU won the Best Poster Presentation Award at the 3rd Iraqi Medical Conference held on the 13th & 14th of February 2026 for their research titled “Awareness, Perception, and Knowledge about Oral Microbiota among College of Dentistry Students in Gulf Medical University, United Arab Emirates.”
The study evaluated dental students’ understanding of the oral microbiome, its dynamic role in maintaining oral homeostasis, and its implications in caries, periodontal disease, and systemic health. The research emphasized the importance of integrating microbiota-related knowledge into undergraduate dental education to support preventive and evidence-based clinical practice.
The College of Dentistry extends its heartfelt congratulations to the students and their supervisor for this commendable achievement.
