The College of Dentistry, Gulf Medical University (GMU) successfully organized “Be a Dentist for a Day,” an engaging outreach initiative designed to provide high school students with a real-life introduction to the field of dentistry. The interactive program was conducted at the College of Dentistry and Thumbay Dental Hospital, welcoming approximately 70 aspiring students for an immersive and hands-on learning experience.
The students were welcomed and addressed by Prof. Tamer Abd ElBari, Acting Dean, College of Dentistry, GMU who encouraged the participants to explore dentistry as a rewarding and dynamic healthcare profession. The event commenced with a short introductory presentation highlighting the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program, the journey of becoming a dentist, and the diverse career opportunities available in the field of dentistry.
The program featured a variety of hands-on and interactive activities, including simulation-based exercises, exposure to digital dentistry technologies such as AI-assisted workflows, and guided visits to the clinical facilities at Thumbay Dental Hospital.
Faculty members, clinical instructors, and dental interns from the College of Dentistry contributed significantly to the smooth conduct and success of the event by mentoring and guiding the participants throughout the sessions.
The initiative reflected the College’s continued commitment to community engagement, experiential learning, and inspiring future generations to pursue careers in oral healthcare and dentistry.
