We take pleasure in inviting you to the Workshop on Essential Skills in Health Professions Education - Session 3 being organized by Gulf Medical University, Ajman on Saturday, 10th of February 2018 from 09:30am - 01:30pm at Mafraq Hospital. Abu Dhabi
1.Provide each participant with a broad understanding of the essential elements (theoretical and practical) of medical and health professions education.
2.Translate this understanding into practical applications, useful and appropriate for their everyday practice
After completion of the course the participant will be able to demonstrate:
1.A broad overview of the theories, contemporary issues, questions and practices in medical and healthcare education;
2.An essential vocabulary and a framework of approaches to medical education that will facilitate their continuing development in the education of healthcare professionals;
3.An appreciation of the technical skills and practical approaches necessary for them to fulfil the different roles of a teacher including information provider, facilitator, role model, assessor, curriculum and resource developer;
4.An appreciation of the advantages and demands of different types of teaching, in particular the differences in expectations between small and large group teaching.
5.The appropriate use of preliminary tasks in order to create a “flipped classroom”
6.The ability to evaluate critically their teaching, in particular in the clinical environment
7.An appreciation of the advantages and demands of different types of assessment.
8.The ability to write and critique type A multiple choice questions
9.The ability to evaluate critically their approaches to assessment, in particular in the clinical environment
10.The development of an action plan to improve or develop the assessment of clinical acumen in their own institution.
11.Application of the approaches described in the course to aspects of their own teaching responsibilities.
